Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne
Published: 7th April 2022 by Piatkus
I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way affects my review.

I feel like Sally Thorne is a huge name in the romance genre, so I was excited to finally be picking up one of her books, and for the most part, I was not disappointed! I really enjoyed the writing style of this, and although I couldn't hugely relate to Ruthie's personality, that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book at all, which I actually think is a huge testament to Thorne as an author, because I feel like this is hard to achieve. I thought the little community that Ruthie found herself in, with the two sisters, and her coworker, to be very endearing, and exactly what she needed. I did find the back and forth between Ruthie and Teddy to be too much at times, and once again, their huge blowout fight towards the end did just feel a bit ridiculous, but it didn't really take away from my overall enjoyment in reading Second First Impressions. I will definitely be picking up Thorne's other books when I can!

To Love and to Loathe by Martha Waters
The Regency Vows #2
Published: 6th April 2021 by Headline Eternal
I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way affects my review.

I really enjoy Regency-set romances, and it seems as though there is an abundance of them lately, which means that my expectations for them have become quite high, and I'm pretty picky about which ones I choose to read now. What I have read of The Regency Vows series has really impressed me, and I continue to enjoy myself so much when I read them! I don't particularly care about the fact that I've been reading them out of order, because Waters does such a good job of building up each individual relationship that it doesn't really matter what's going on in the background. I really liked the fact that they had known each other for years, being a part of their bigger friendship group, as it made the impact of them going from sarcastic friends to lovers so much more fun! I also enjoyed seeing the little hints of a future relationship, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle
Published: 19th March 2024 by Quercus
I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way affects my review.

I enjoyed Serle's previous novel, One Italian Summer, and have heard nothing but good things about her other work, In Five Years, so I was quite optimistic that I would enjoy Expiration Dates - and that was mostly true! I really liked the concept of this, as I felt it helped it to separate itself from other romances - this felt like a truly unique aspect and I really enjoyed how Serle interspersed previous relationships that Daphne had experienced, while also taking readers along the story of her present day and current relationship. However, I didn't love how her final relationship came about; the manipulation and secret-keeping that led to them being together left a bad taste while I was reading, and I found it hard to root for them even though it was pretty obvious what was going to happen, as I really enjoyed her relationship with Jake, and found it hard to believe it would end as abruptly as it did.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
Part of Your World #3
Published: 2nd April 2024 by Piatkus
I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way affects my review.

After enjoying Yours Truly, the second in this series, so much last year, I was eagerly anticipating the newest book from Abby Jimenez, and unfortunately, I think my expectations were just a bit too high. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy Just for the Summer, because I really did, but it just didn't quite match up to how I felt about Yours Truly. I loved how attentive Justin was from the very beginning to Emma - all of the cute forms and the intentional acts behind their dates. I feel like he was given a bit of a rough hand, not only with his family situation but also in how Emma treated him, as a result of her own family issues. It's understandable and realistic, but I didn't love how completely she left his life before creeping back in when it was right for her - I really liked her as a main character but something just didn't feel quite right.
