Mini Reviews #5

More mini reviews, because I have so many books I need to review!

Dark Room (Red Eye)
Dark Room by Tom Becker
Publisher/Year: September 10th 2015 Stripes Publishing
Series: Red Eye
Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley
(Thanks NetGalley/Stripes Publishing!)
Rating: 3 stars out of 5
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion.

I requested this book initially because of the photography element, as it is a passion of mine, but I also enjoy reading about it. I was wary as it is pitched as Horror, and I am not the biggest fan of that, but I was actually disappointed. It wasn't scary in the slightest and I wanted some. However, this book was very visual and easy to read, so I can't complain there. The killer was predictable and there weren't many moments that surprised me, unfortunately.

All of the AboveAll of the Above by James Dawson
Publisher/Year: September 3rd 2015 Hot Key Books
Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley
(Thanks NetGalley/Hot Key Books!)
Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5

I didn't plan on writing this as a mini review, but I just have so many books to get through! For years I have been hearing great things about all of Dawson's work, both fiction and non-fiction, so when I saw this up on NetGalley I obviously leapt at the chance to read it. I didn't really expect this book to grip me as much as it did, but I sped through All of the Above and could not put it down. This book was just so relatable and something I knew could be entirely plausible for me or anyone else I know. I definitely want to read more.

The Blackthorn Key (The Blackthorn series)
The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands
Publisher/Year: September 3rd 2015 Puffin
Series: Christopher Rowe #1
Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley
(Thanks NetGalley/Puffin!)
Rating: 3 stars out of 5

This book intrigued me when I first saw it on NetGalley, and so I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't anything special. To be honest, I can't remember too much of what happened in this book, because it just wasn't memorable. The general premise is definitely interesting, and maybe readers younger than me will enjoy it more, but sadly this wasn't good enough for me to continue on with the series.
